①《红楼梦》第九十四回写了发生在大观园里的一件怪事：那些本该在阳春三月开花的海棠树，在花木凋零的ll月却突然开满了鲜花。聪明过人的探春心想：“大凡顺者昌，逆者亡；草木知运，不时而发，必是妖孽。”不久，大观园开始走向衰落。
②植物究竟有没有预知天灾人祸及天气变化的能力呢?虽说预知人祸的能力大多在文学作品中才能看到，但预测天灾及天气变化的本领却是活生生的事实。许多科学家对这一有趣的问题进行了大量的观测和研究。
③科学家发现，含羞草能预测地震等自然灾害。含羞草的叶子排列整齐、对称．轻轻触动一下它的叶尖，整个叶子都迅速合起来，真像低眉顺目、含羞自持的少女一般。通常情况下，含羞草的叶子是白天打开，夜晚闭合；日出前30分钟舒展枝叶，日落30分钟后枝叶则收拢。假如一反常规，白天闭合，夜晚舒展，则表示大自然将发生变异，这种反常表现很可能是地震发生的前兆。有人观察到，如果周围60公里的范围内将发生大地震时，约40分钟前，含羞草会发生行为改变，会在白天将叶子闭合起来。看来，含羞草的确能预知地震，给人以警示。
