阅读下面的短文,然后按照要求写一篇150词左右的英语短文。A long time ago, there was a huge apple tre

The fable presents a sentimental story to us in which an apple tree satisfied a boy’s wishes unconditionally by sacrificing everything for him. All it desired is the boy’s company.

The tree in the fable is affectionate and unselfish. The moral of it is that parental love is so infinite that children should be grateful for that. I was deeply moved by the fable and felt an impulse to praise all the parents. It made me realize how great my parents are and I should be grateful for what they have done.

If I were the boy, I would keep contact with the tree and be considerate. First, from the bottom of my heart, I know the tree is more than a tree, it is my dearest love. Young or old, I would keep in touch with it using various ways. If I have to travel away, I would write to it, phone him or send e-mails to it informing it of my life. Secondly, in order not to let my dearest feel so lonely, I would plant some trees and flowers around it. These plants will brave the hard winters with it. In addition, I would invite some other children to play with it. Their company will surely make the life more colorful.

Therefore, if I were the boy, I would hold the tree dear.

Sailors used to speak of a “jack” when they meant a flag which was set near the bow of a sailing ship. The flag showed the country to which the ship belonged. The Union Jack became the flag of Great Britain. Australia’s flag has the Union Jack in the top left -hand corner together with the stars of the Southern Cross. They have kept this small part of Britain on their flag because their country was first settled by people from Britain. Australia’s flag is the same color as the Union Jack — red, white and blue. The act of joining together is called a “union”. The Union Jack was the name of the flag made when England, Scotland and Ireland joined together to make one country.

It all began in 1707, when England and Scotland joined together to become one nation. A flag was made using two crosses — one for the patron saint of each country, which means protector. Many centuries before, the English had taken St. George as their patron saint. His emblem was a red cross on a white background. The Scottish patron saint was St Andrew. In memory of him, they used a white cross on a blue background. This cross was shaped like the letter “X”. The new flag was a mixture of both flags with two sets of crosses.

When Ireland joined England and Scotland in 1800, another cross was added. St Parick’s cross of Ireland was red and also shaped like an “X”. All three flags now made up the Union Jack.

The BBC was founded in 1922, including radio and television services. It is based at Broadcasting House in London.

The BBC is controlled by some governors chosen by the government, but these people have freedom and the government can’t interfere(干扰). That is, the BBC is supposed not to be the mouthpiece(代言人)of the government. Everyone has to buy a yearly licence, since there is no advertising on BBC radio or television. It is from the sale of licences that the BBC gets most of its money. A licence for a black and white set costs 8 pounds, and for a colour set 18 pounds a year.

There are four specialized radio channels, which broadcast different kinds of programmes. Radio I is mainly pop music. Radio 2 deals with light nusic, sports and other programmes. Radio 3 broadcasts serious music, talks on serious subjects etc. News broadcasts are mainly given by Radio 4.

The United States covers a large part of the North American continent. Its neighbors are Canada to the north and Mexico to the south. Although the United States is a big country, it is not the largest in the world. In 1964, its population was over 185 000 000.

When this land first became a nation, after winning its independence(独立)from England, it had thirteen states. Each of the states was represented(代表)on the American flag by a star. All these atates were in the eastern part of the continent. As the nation grew toward the west, new states were added and new stars appeared on the flag. For a long time, there were 48 stars. In 1959, however, two more stars were added to the flag, representing the new states of Alaska and Hawaii.
